Music For MySpace

Everything you ever wanted to know about MySpace and more!

How the Classified Work at MySpace

MySpace is known by many as a social networking website.  Oftentimes, we may forget that this networking can also include interactions between those who want to sell and buy, making MySpace one of the up and coming classified spaces on the Internet.  The website is available to anyone free of charge.  The MySpace website has become unbelievably popular with friends wanting to chat online and meet new friends, musicians, filmmakers, comedians, and other artists looking for an accessible venue for sharing and receiving feedback on their work, business people looking to connect with like-minded business people, and families looking to share photos, videos, and memories from afar.  If you are looking to sell something, MySpace may be the perfect place for you to find a long-lost buyer.

MySpace.com’s overwhelming popularity has helped propel it to become the fourth most popular English-language website on the Internet.  It is also the third most popular website in the United States, with daily visits topping those of Google, ebay, and aol.com.  In fact, this September marked the 106 millionth MySpace.com registrant.  Imagine the potential of even a fraction of these users viewing your classified ad!

The MySpace classified space is broken up into eleven categories:  Jobs, Musician Exchange, MySpace Friends, Housing and Rentals, Services, Filmmakers, Casting Calls, Personals, For Sale, Cars for Sale, and Items Wanted.  These categories are then broken down even further.  For example, under Casting Calls, you will find acting, dance, musicians, modeling, and reality shows.  The subcategories in the For Sale section include baby, toys, and kids; books, furniture, sports and outdoors, and jewelry.  MySpace also has a barter or swap section.  You can choose the categories in which you’d like to advertise your items, and you listing items in more than one category.

The MySpace Classifieds are also organized by the city from which you are selling your item.  MySpace Classifieds includes all major United States cities, as well as those in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.  You can search for items in any of these cities.  MySpace does not require you to be a member in order to search for items in its classified ads.  You do, however, need to be a member in order to post a classified ad.  It is free both to join MySpace and to post an advertisement in MySpace’s classified section.

Comparing the number of classified ads on MySpace to those found on other online classified pages, like craigslist.com, leads one to believe that MySpace classified ads aren’t as popular as its other features. For example, the Baby, Toys, and Kids section for Denver has six classifieds for a 10-day period, while the Denver craigslist.com has over a hundred listings in its baby, toys, and kids category for a single day. Since the MySpace classified service is free, however, it certainly doesn’t hurt to post an ad.   Industry experts believe that MySpace is just ramping up its classified spaces, however, and that it will soon compete with craigslist.com, ebay.com, careerbuilder.com, and newspapers.

One venue where MySpace’s classified section really seems to work is employment.  With many people using MySpace as a place to network with business partners, colleagues, and other like-minded people, it is becoming increasingly common for people to search for job openings.

Other major computer-based companies expect MySpace to become a formidable competitor in the classifieds market.   Microsoft, in fact, just started its own social marketplace, called Expo, which it hopes can compete with the social networking giant.

So while business may look slow in some of the classified categories, it’s sure to pick up in the coming months as MySpace looks to expand its community-based marketplace even further.
